Aug 04, 2015  Cilla Black died two days ago. I worked as a researcher on her Surprise! Series at London Weekend Television. I cannot honestly say I was enamoured of her. I think she was the only star I have ever worked with who behaved like a star. But she was worth every penny. Priscilla Maria Veronica White OBE (27 May 1943 – 1 August 2015), better known as Cilla Black, was an English singer, television presenter, actress, and author. Championed by her friends in the Beatles, Black began her career as a singer in 1963, and her singles 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' and 'You're My World' both reached number one in the UK in 1964. Cilla says 75 is 'good age to die' BelfastTelegraph.co.uk Cilla Black has said she would be happy to die by the age of 75 before ill-health ruins her quality of life - but ruled out suicide.

Robert Willis (25 January 1942 – 23 October 1999) was a British songwriter, who became the manager and eventually the husband of British singer and television personality Cilla Black.

Cilla Black can bog off; Cupid can shove his arrows and Paddy McGuinness can do one right to the Isle of Fernando's. There's a new love-sheriff in town, and he's an unapologetically middle-class comedian called Jack Whitehall. Well versed in the language of love, Jack. He married Cilla Black on his 27th birthday at Marylebone register office. The couple were granted a dispensation to have their marriage blessed on 6 March 1969 at St Mary's Church, Woolton, to please Black's Catholic family. (Willis was from an Anglican background.). Cilla Black: I still want to die at 75 even though it's only four years away. The singer and TV host will be presented with a Bafta in recognition of her 50-year career which has featured Surprise.

Career[edit]

His first known recorded composition, 'Shy of Love' was featured on the B-side of 'Love of the Loved', the debut release of Cilla Black in September 1963. During the sixties he was to write many songs for his then girlfriend to record and perform.

One of his most popular – 'Is It Love?' – was featured in the beat film Ferry Cross the Mersey in 1965. He collaborated with Clive Westlake, Kenny Lynch and Beatles producer George Martin on some songs.

After the death of Black's manager, Brian Epstein, Willis took over her management duties and over the next thirty years, developed her popularity with television family audiences, and helped Black to become the highest-paid female presenter on television.
